MASA Group is proud to announce the release of SWORD Officer Training v3.1, the latest version of its flagship constructive simulation for training Army officers.

PARIS, FRANCE (June 19th, 2009) — MASA Group is proud to announce the release of SWORD Officer Training v3.1, the latest version of its flagship constructive simulation for training Army officers. SWORD Officer Training is a light and portable simulation-based training solution for commanders. It allows immersing them in modern battle environments to hone their tactical knowledge and to rehearse their techniques and procedures.

Key improvements in SWORD Officer Training v3.1 are located in the following areas:

  • Sword Terrain GenerationGeographic data support: SWORD provides support for the raster data format GeoTIFF and for vector formats like ESRI Shapefiles and ESRI ArcSDE Database (format reading by libraries GDAL/OGR). In addition, the new interface allows an accurate parametering of the import process, like the choice of layers and attributes.

  • Player scoring: Users can now use key performance indicators (KPI) which will be computed in real-time during excercises, and which can be followed by players during gaming as well as after-action-review phases. In particular, users can define critical success factors for their exercises, allowing the integration of both collaborative and individual training in a given training course, or the export of all the information required for further analysis as reports under HTML or CSV formats.
  • Scenario scripting: Users can now link scripts to their exercises in order to automate actions in reaction to given events. It is then easy to create entire scenarios following precise and realistic storyboards for players to interact with. For example: "if the blue units cross this river, then red units will automatically receive an attack order". Or: "if more than half of the red units are destroyed, then reinforcement will be deployed while the remaining red units will retreat". In association with autonomous behavior models, scenario scripting provides an unsurpassed level of automation of computer generated forces (CGF).

SWORD Officer Training is a constantly evolving product. Future versions will take into account urban terrain and will support the latest version of MASA Group decisional engine and behavior modelling technology, DirectIA 5. Keep in touch!
