MASA Sword selected by Amper Programas

Amper Programas integrates MASA Group’s constructive simulation tool MASA Sword within their C2IS system (BMS – Battle Management System) for Course of Action Analysis

Madrid and Paris, October 27th, 2010 — Amper Programas and MASA Group announce today that MASA’s Battle Command Constructive Simulation MASA Sword has been selected by Amper, a Spanish defense integrator specializing in COTSbased tactical Command & Control Information Systems (C2IS, C2), to support its most recent offering of a C2 system embedding a low overhead battle command constructive simulation. This new offering enables Amper to add Course of Action Analysis (and embedded training) to the list of features already provided by its C2 systems and products.

In the latest version of Amper’s C2 system, a Course of Action Analysis capability has been implemented consisting of assessments of multiple maneuver planning variations initialized by the C2 system in the simulation. Using MASA Sword’s unique artificial intelligence capabilities for implementing military behavior and doctrine, each action plan is executed in a realistic and automated way and then evaluated by a large range of Key Performance Indicators (KPI). This allows for the selection of the optimal Course of Action (Best Course) for the planned operation, which is then exported back to the C2 system for operational readiness.

This partnership allows Amper to offer its end-users with a ground-breaking and innovative Command and Control system that leverages MASA’s cutting-edge decisional AI technology. Such technology allows brigade and division-level battle command exercises to be simulated and automated with a smaller number of controllers, having far more control over the constructive simulation than before. Additionally the new capability helps filling the bi-directional interoperability gap between operational systems and simulation capabilities. Officers can now assess their operations as they are planned, which drastically changes the way forces rehearse and prepare for conflicts. MASA’s decisional AI and automation capabilities allow a joint effort for designing and implementing a new type of Course of Action Analysis. With such differentiators Amper positions itself as an industry thought leader and innovator for the development of next-generation COTS-based C2 Systems.

“The integration of MASA Sword in our C2 system offering represents an important addition to our broad range of product capabilities. We are now able to bring to the market a solution to a longstanding problem our customers wish to address: the interoperability gap between simulation capabilities and operational command & control systems. To address such a difficult and complex problem we chose MASA Sword for its unique automation and sophisticated decisional AI capabilities. With this new approach Officers can now assess their action plans quickly and efficiently, without disrupting their workflow”, declared D. Juan Manuel Castro, Chief Marketing Officer at Amper Programas.

“Integrating a simulation into a C2 system within the context of operations for embedded training and a tool for Course of Action Analysis is a tremendous step forward and technological advancement on top of our existing framework for communication protocols and C2 interfaces. This is yet another example of the flexibility and extendibility of MASA Sword to address an important planning need. It comes in addition to the current uses of MASA Sword for command staff training, doctrine analysis & support of crisis management cells”, stated Juan-Pablo Torres, head of New Markets Development within MASA Group.

“We are thrilled that Amper has chosen to adopt MASA Sword as their default simulation engine. Together we are looking forward to a long prosperous relationship with a combined effort to continue developing and delivering industry leading simulation capabilities to our customers”, added Patrick Samama, CEO of MASA Group.
